Ning for it!

With great enthusiasm I declare that the partnership of Ning Research and NEK Technology is the now the sole distributor for ADINA System in Singapore and Malaysia!

ADINA System is an excellent finite element software for industry projects and education purposes. It offers a one-system programme for comprehensive finite element analyses of structures, fluids and their interaction with thermal effect.

With ADINA System distributorship now under our wing and the partnership with NEK Technology, Ning Research is in the position to provide innovative and integrated computational engineering consultancy services, which include, (1) simulation and numerical analysis, (2) software/hardware solutions, (3) training/education and (4) rental of parallel computing resources (to your doorstep!).

Ning for it! So efficient so nice...

Ning Research will be incorporated as Ning Research Pte Ltd on 1 Sept 2008. I will introduce to you Ning Research's team in my next post.

Book recommendation

I love reading books. While the internet has taken over the role of providing me with information on new technologies, books remain as my main source of knowledge on new ideas.

I am currently reading a book which I would like to recommend to you. This book is introduced to me by my friend Kevin Chu. Kevin is a brilliant guy and I want to introduce him to you soon because he will be playing a big role in Ning Research.

A story on shit and action

I want to share with you a story on ACTION.

I am with my current organisation for nearly three and a half year now. One year into my employment, we had a re-organisation and I was assigned to a newly formed team.

In our first meeting, the team leader talked for more than three hours on all useless and directionless topics that are mostly self-centred or are meaningless complains. This behaviour not only carries on for the next two and a half years, it has also infected existing and new members.

To make things worse, 15mins into our first meeting I began to have the urge to visit the toilet which I subsequently endured for the next three hours out of politeness. Unfortunately because of this experience, I injured my stomach which I am never recover from.

I worked hard and become a team leader myself a year later leading a team of more than 20 researchers, which is four times larger. I know communication is the key to success but action must always speak louder than words. So until this day, everytime (and quite frequently) when I have a bad stomach that disturbs my sleep or other activities, I remind myself of two things. (1) I gotta let the shit out! and (2) ACTION!

Problem 1 has been solved which I will share with you in my next post.

Action Number 1

Big idea needs support from real action.

I went online to identify the ideal software after speaking to Nobel. Some criteria are as follows

The software has to be

1. the right tool for my consultancy
2. the right tool for the industries
3. the right tool for the universities

After identifying the software, I shall write to the company for distributorship. To prepare myself in writing the proposal, I have picked up the following book from the library.

One BIG idea

I am going to share with you a BIG idea. The centre of the message is people.

I will like to introduce Nobel here. Nobel and I knew each other since our university days. He is an impressive guy, he is both intelligent and resourceful and yet humble. We all admire him.

In one of our regular discussions on Ning Research, Nobel surprised me with a bold suggestion...

One way to get around Problem 2, he said, is to obtain distributorship for a software.

More people more ideas more opportunities. Nobel you are the best!

Problems, talents and opportunities

According to Statistics Singapore we have a total of 4.6millions residents in Singapore (2008). In 1988, it was only 2.8millions. There are problems that come with an increasing population. In 1998, Singaporean was stressed mentally from increasing competition from foreigners, now in 2008 the stress nature has elevated to physical stress... we can get squeeze to death/permanetly disabled if we are not careful when taking train/lift to/from work.

Do we see more people as obstacles or opportunities?

Nonsense aside, let me now share with you the two problems that are hindering my progress.

Problem 1
Not able to look for projects right now. This is because my current appointment has direct conflict of interest with the consultancy I want to set up. But without first securing projects of substantial value, I am unable to move on to set up the consultancy. I am in a catch-21 situation.

Problem 2
The software (ABAQUS, ANSYS, FLUENT etc) that I need to do the work are too expensive. A single license will sometime cost as much as the cost of two projects per year.

I need to solve these problems first in order to move on.

I need talents, more people more opportunities!

Leave a message here. Talent has no eye for paper qualifications, talent is in the eye of the talented.
